The most common issue of Walmart Sellers is the inability to update some or all of their product data. Many times you will notice that once your product is published, you may not be able to update its data even though there aren’t any obvious errors and the data feeds are successful. Below we try to explain why it is happening and how you can address these issues.
Only a handful of sellers are aware that on Walmart, product content and sellers are ranked. This concept was mainly introduced to prevent the constant flow of updates from many sources if there is more than one seller of a specific listing.
As Walmart states on its FAQ page:
There may be multiple sellers providing content for the same item, so you may not always be able to define which content will be displayed on Walmart.com. Walmart will determine the best available content for items unless it is provided by a brand owner or authorized reseller. Items that cannot be updated will appear locked during the updating process.
So, if you sell a product that is also offered by other sellers, there might be a situation where you won’t be able to update some parts of the product data.
If you are not eligible to update the product data, the fields will be simply greyed out, and you won’t be able to change the information provided there. In some cases, you may be able to input your own data, but Walmart may reject it, and you will see relevant information under the updated fields:
In case you cannot push the data and Walmart is not accepting your content suggestion, you can also submit an appeal through the support case, but again, there is no guarantee of approval.
For brand owners
If you are a brand owner, you can request content ownership for your approved items. You can request it via support case as well. (category path: Items and Inventory > Content Update Errors) Once you are approved, you should be marked as the content owner for specific items and be able to update them without any issues.
On the other hand, if you face issues with trademark or copyright violations or you notice counterfeits of your product, you can register with the Walmart brand portal, which can help you protect your items.
