The most common issue of Walmart Sellers is the inability to update some or all of their product data. Many times you will notice that once your product is published, you may not be able to update its data even though there aren’t any obvious errors and the data feeds are successful. Below we try to explain why it is happening and how you can address these issues.
Only a handful of sellers are aware that on Walmart, product content and sellers are ranked. This concept was mainly introduced to prevent the constant flow of updates from many sources if there is more than one seller of a specific listing.
As Walmart states on its FAQ page:
There are a number of different sources providing item content to Walmart.com that are algorithmically selected to appear on the Item Page. We look at each attribute separately to select the best content to display to deliver the best customer experience possible.
So if you sell a product that is also offered by other sellers, there might be a situation where content uploaded by another user is ranked higher, and your changes will not be displayed on the listing page.
You can easily check which of your products’ attributes are locked for edition in the product edit page of your Walmart Seller Center:
If you see a red exclamation mark next to the product attribute, it means that a higher-ranked seller controls this field. You can submit new product data as a content suggestion anyway, but there is no guarantee that it will be approved.
In case you cannot push the data and Walmart is not accepting your content suggestion, you can also submit an appeal through the support case, but again, there is no guarantee of approval.
For brand owners
If you are a brand owner, you can request content ownership for your approved items. You can request it via support case as well. (category path: Items and Inventory > Content Update Errors) Once you are approved, you should be marked as the content owner for specific items and be able to update them without any issues.
On the other hand, if you face issues with trademark or copyright violations or you notice counterfeits of your product, you can register with the Walmart brand portal, which can help you protect your items.
